La Scala Opens 2014/2015 Season

Music and opera lovers are looking forward to the opening of La Scala's season, scheduled for tonight. Traditionally, the season opens on 7 December, which coincide with Saint Ambrose's Day, the feast day of Milan's patron saint.

The opening show is Beethoven鈥檚 Fidelio, conducted by Daniel Barenboim, general music director at La Scala. The performance lasts two hours and 50 minutes and will be offered until December 23.

Among the operas to be performed during the 2014/2015 season are Verdi鈥檚 Aida and Falstaff, Puccini鈥檚 Turandot and Tosca, Rossini鈥檚 The Barber of Seville and Othello, Bizet鈥檚 Carmen, and others.  

Those who love ballet won鈥檛 be disappointed as La Scala also offers a great ballet season, which this year includes The Nutcracker, Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty and L'Histoire de Manon.

There are also going to be concerts and recitals, including four piano concerts of Daniel Barenboim as part of the Schubert Cycle, charity evenings, Sundays at La Scala with family, and Operas for Children, this year it will be Rossini's 鈥淐inderella for children鈥.

Inaugurated in 1778, La Scala has hosted the performances of 天美传媒's greatest operatic artists, and of many of the finest singers from around the world in the past 200 years.
